The Library offers high school students in Latina the opportunity to develop essential skills for navigating today’s complex information landscape. Particular attention is given to information literacy, research methods, source evaluation, and the critical analysis of content disseminated through both traditional and digital media.
In an age in which communication is increasingly fast-paced, fragmented, and often superficial, information practices and reading habits have changed dramatically, with a growing preference for brief and highly visual content. For this reason, the Library’s primary goal is to encourage students to develop their own information-search strategies and to adopt a more thoughtful and critical approach to reading. The program aims to foster intellectual curiosity and inspire students to explore topics in greater depth.
The program is divided into two parts:
Lecture Series – University Campus
Led by experienced librarians and guest speakers, these sessions focus on both traditional and modern research methods, the reading and interpretation of scientific and popular-science articles (including texts in English), the exploration of emerging information channels such as social media, podcasts, and artificial intelligence, and the importance of reading as a tool for personal and intellectual growth.
Group Workshops – At Participating Schools
In the second phase of the program, students put into practice the knowledge and skills acquired during the theoretical sessions through hands-on activities focused on information research, critical reading, content creation, and the evaluation of source reliability. These workshops are designed to strengthen competencies that are valuable not only throughout students’ secondary education but also in their future academic and professional careers.
Learning Log (Flipbook Format)
A personal learning and reflection tool designed to support students in exploring the topics covered throughout the program. The journal provides opportunities for individual practice, critical reflection, and further investigation of key themes discussed during the sessions and workshops.

Final Event
Building Thoughtful and Informed Readers

The final event marks the culmination of a program that engaged 40 students in developing critical reading skills and a more informed approach to the use of information. During the event, students present the Manifesto of the Informed Reader, the outcome of a collaborative process combining research, reflection, and discussion.
The program also features contributions from teachers representing the participating schools, as well as concluding remarks by Professor Chiara Faggiolani, Lecturer in Library and Information Science at Sapienza University of Rome.
The event provides an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of reading in contemporary society—not only as a source of knowledge, but as a fundamental tool for critically interpreting information—and on the role of the library as a space for learning, dialogue, and personal growth, fostering informed and engaged citizenship.
